I trust this brand of lawn food and was amazed at the sale price. Fortunately, I have a small yard so the bags I bought didn’t weigh too much. It so easy to use. Just open the bag, pour into spreader and fertilize the lawn. But there is one more step that must be taken for the maximum benefit. I had to water it in to ensure the granules got down to the soil.

To start I am using this in Southeast Michigan on a typical subdivision yard. I bought my house in mid summer and the grass wasn’t in great shape- clearly had not been cared for. I aerated and have used Scott’s summer guard, did a Winterguard around Labor Day and just put down my second application at the end of October after reading that two fall applications should be used. And based on my Labor Day spreading results, I am very much looking forward to spring. Took about 3 weeks, but I could definitely see a difference in grass greenness and thickening. I had some bare spots I was hoping would get grass coverage, and while they aren’t 100% covered, they have substantially improved. Like I said, I just put down my second application so it’s too soon to say if that’s done anything, but my first application clearly had results. If spring is when you really see the payoff on fall feedings, then I should have an outstanding lawn next April.

I follow the Scott’s Turf Builder program and it has made my lawn the envy of the entire neighborhood. I put this on in the fall following the directions and my lawn is the first to green up in the spring, and it make it healthier to survive the winter. While it is a little more expensive than some other brands it is a good quality product and cheaper than hiring a lawn service company.

There is a 1 star review to use this product at “YOUR OWN RISK.” What you need to understand about this product is that it is not a weed and feed, but a fertilizer (feed only). Which means it is “food” for your grass, but unfortunately also a food for weeds that you may not realize you already have. It is stupid to think this product is contaminated with weeds, not true. Also too much fertilizer is ALWAYS a bad idea and WILL turn your grass brown, and you need to wait at least 6-8 weeks before fertilizing again.I use this product along with a pre-emergent to prevent chickweed during the fall and winter, which works for the Seattle area (cool-season Perennial Ryegrass), which may not work for your area of the country. You HAVE TO read books if you want to have that dream lawn, which can take at least 2 years of doing everything right! You should not expect to build a dream body from just 6 months of working out, but you’ll see a difference, and in time it will always keep getting better . . . patience, pre-emergent at “just the right 2 times” each year, and fertilizing 4-5 times a year will make all the difference!

It’s that time of year again, so, when I saw that Amazon had this winter guard version of the Scott’s fertilizer in stock and at a competitive price to the two big box home and garden stores, I didn’t think twice. We have been buying this fertilizer for years, and have always gotten compliments and questions from neighbors about our lawn. This is all you need for your lawn to enjoy a long winter’s nap. It will wake up next spring ready and waiting for its Spring Scott’s weed and feed.If you use Scott’s lawn fertilizer three or four times a year you can keep your lawn well established and healthy…that’s what I tell my neighbors, and that’s what I have been doing for the past 38 years.

I’ve tried other brands, and always come back to Scotts. I’ve tried the commercial outfits that come out with sprays or zip around on their little motorized spreaders using an unknown brand of pellet fertilizer. I’ve tried the less expensive “store brands” and wasn’t satisfied with the results. I always fall back on the tried and true Scotts and it’s never failed to produce excellent results. Most people don’t realize that using an over winter fertilizer is CRITICAL for your lawn = if you expect to have a nice looking yard in the Spring. I appreciate Amazon saving me a trip to the hardware store ( 40 mile round trip for me) and delivering these ( Amazon Prime member) 37.5 pound heavy bags right to my home. No lifting it into the cart, then lifting it out of the cart and into the car ………then lifting it out of the car and into the garage. Using Amazon Prime saves me time, gas, mileage, muscle and money.

Turned my bare or weed infested lawn into a green , thick lawn of healthy grass. Used it in 2016 and will use it in 2018!

My lawn is about 2 years old and I have not been properly taking care of it so it’s not really great. So after reading reviews, I did exactly as everyone recommended. Using a spreader I treated my lawn I then cut my grass with out using the bag. I watered the grass thoroughly just to make sure that everything had a little bit of water and that the sun didn’t burn it out. Luckily for me it rain about 3 days later. I noticed sprouts within a week of application I got excited and kept watching it every day just to see what would happen. It is October the temperature is dropped to about 38゚ here in Georgia and I am the only lawn on the block with green grass! The green is coming from new growth which is amazing to me however I did have to go through the lawn and pull some weeds that had sprouted up.

Apply this after your last mowing of the season (usually november) but a few weeks before the ground freezes. I use organic fertilizer in may and early fall feeding but late fall feeding is too cold for organics . Also you don’t need a full feeding at this time. Apply at 1/2 to 2/3 normal feeding as your not trying to feed for top growth, just the roots. You may get a little green on top growth but mainly looking to feed roots . It’s been 4 months since I winterized and now early march and already lawn is greening up nicely. I won’t fertilize for another 2 months and will still have a very full and green lawn. Scotts winterizer rules, when applied correctly…

I bought this in a combo set with three other types of fertilizer and was a great special price. 4 different types to put down different times of the year. I’ve always been happy with Scotts brand. I just started regular fertilizing so only time will tell if I get thicker, greener grass and fewer weeds. Occasionally I will come across clumps in the fertilizer but my walk-behind spreader has no problems breaking those down. All of the bags came intact with no holes(this was my first time ordering fertilizer from amazon so I was worried about the handling.)
