This luggage is a rock star. Used it very recently on a trip to Spain and it held up great. Had to roll it over cobblestone, construction sites, up and down metro stairs, and it kicked butt. This luggage is meant for travelers. Travelpro makes the best!

I got the 26″ to go take to my study abroad program in Lima, Peru for a little over 2 months. I packed this baby full and it still only weighed 35 pounds and it survived a double change of planes and some wicked mountain turbulence just fine. I also have a much more frequently used carry on from Travelpro and I love it!

If you like my review, please give it a thumbs-up. I only write reviews to help fellow Amazon shoppers. I am not compensated for any products, (I buy them with my own money, like many of you) and I write what I experience in order to make Amazon Reviews better for us all. This Travelpro Maxlite 5 22″ is possibly the best carry-on out there for price/value.Yes this bag is slightly larger in overall dimensions (from top of bag to bottom of wheels, it’s about 23″ tall) that US Domestic restrictions for some airlines (United, for one) BUT this bag easily fits into overhead bins. I flew with this bag on 777’s, 737-700’s and A321s, all without issues. Gate agents didn’t even look at this bag and I didn’t stand out with it either. Other travellers who were trying to stuff rather large duffels were told at the gate they’d have to check their bags.Bag construction is of high quality nylon mesh and other high quality plastics. The wheels are perfectly round and feel durable. I pulled my bag across airports, roads, crosswalks and the uneven sidewalks in NYC. No issues and the bag remains stable and upright when being pulled.I elected to buy the two-wheeled version versus the spinner in order to gain more interior room in the bag. I was able to pack 3 suits and dress shirts (in a suit protector I also bought on Amazon) along with some golf shirts, shorts, jeans, socks and other small items. All this without making the bag bulge or look overstuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. The bag is easy to pull down a jet’s aisle(s) and with its built in padded side handle, making your way to your seat is a breeze. Being super light unpacked, this bag really makes great use of space all without making the bag heavy when packed. The zippers all have nice pulls and are easily accessible. The main compartment zippers have connecting loops so you can put a lock on your bag if you are forced to gate check. There’s a front zippered pocket which serves you well for your phone and travel docs before going through TSA. This makes emptying your pants pockets easy so you can go unmolested through TSA checkpoints. While an occasional reach around from TSA could be nice, I prefer to avoid such personal interactions. The front expandable section of the bag allows for easy storage of a thin laptop or iPad and some cables. All making for easy access while on board a plane so you can get situated before flight with your devices.I can see packing for a 5 day trip in this bag and maybe adding a backpack for some extras to get to 7-8 days total.Overall, this bag is a great value, well made and I can see getting many good years out of it. And with bag fees going from $25-$30, buying and owning a bag like this is a no brainer now. If you use it 2-3 times, it will have paid for itself. You need this bag in your travel arsenal. Buy it. You can come back and thank me later.

Note: The color selection when I purchased this bag (and as of this writing, still on the website) says the bag is “Slate Green”, but it is actually black. The manufacturer mentioned in the Q&A that this bag does not come in green. The exterior overall dimensions for the International Expandable Rollaboard are: 21.5″ x 15.75″ x 7.75″, which equals 45 linear inches (55x40x20cm = 115 cm). This fits the current carry-on requirements for many airlines. The interior dimensions are 20″ x 15″ x 7.75″, and the weight is 5.4 lbs. The label says the volume is 45 liters.I already own theÂ

that I LOVE as a carry-on, but, but I wanted another bag that would fit most carry-on requirements but also be sturdy enough to check it. (The Ozone is really well made, but because the shell is soft (like a backpack), things inside might get crushed.)The Travelpro bag looks like it will be perfect. It seems very sturdy and well-built, including the well-padded fabric handles on the top and side. The wheels also look very solid. The expansion section is a nice feature, although using it may exceed size requirements for a carry-on for some airlines. Nice for having a little extra space if that’s not an issue. Besides the main opening for the interior, there is a large outside zippered pocket that is the full length of the top flap (I don’t have a laptop, but it looks like it would probably hold up to a 17″ laptop), and also a smaller zippered compartment that is about 6.5″ deep. Great for keeping your boarding pass or anything else you want quick access to.The interior is a light-colored plaid fabric, which I prefer to black since it’s easier to see things in it. There’s a large mesh pocket on the top flap, and a small interior pocket on one side of the main compartment. This particular piece also comes in a “spinner” versionÂ
Travelpro Luggage Maxlite 5 International Expandable Spinner Suitcase Carry-On, Black
, which has 4 wheels on casters instead of the 2 inline wheels. I know a lot of people like spinners because of the ease of pushing them around in any direction, but I chose the rollaboard over the spinner for several reasons: casters are more likely to get broken than inline wheels, I don’t have to worry about my luggage rolling away if I’m on a slope, and I find the 2-wheeled bags easier to control over uneven surfaces. But most important, for the same exterior height, rollaboards have more interior space than spinners because of the extra space required for casters. As a comparison, the interior dimensions for the spinner model are 18 x 15 x 7.75, which is 2″ less in height than the rollaboard. That’s a difference of about 232 square inches, and in a small bag, every little bit helps. Plus the exterior dimensions for the spinner are actually slightly bigger than the rollaboard, at 21.75″ high instead of 21.5″ high (same width/depth). That makes the total linear measurement of the spinner 45.25″, which slightly exceeds some airline maximums of 45″.

Used this on a two-week trip to Italy. Had no problems having it accepted as a carry-on via Delta/Al’Italia, United, and EasyJet flights even though I was mildly concerned about it being one inch beyond width regulation at 15″ wide (and it isn’t just the side handle adding that extra inch) and not 14″ wide. It seemed the bigger point of contention at check-in was height as I noticed my parents’ bags, while within the width requirement, were ever so slightly taller than the allowed height and had to be checked on the EasyJet flight. It is roomy and the light-weight design is a definite plus as I’m a petite woman and it is hard for me to lift something heavier. The blue color is cheerful and easy to spot. Compartments offer nice storage options. The design stands up easily so there is no concern of it toppling over.

Worth it. When it comes to luggage, I’ve sacrificed quality for a lower price but will not make that mistake again. It’s pricey but this is THE suitcase for 5+ days of travel – I packed for 10 days and still had room for more. The handle extends nicely and was sturdy enough to support my heavy laptop via sliding the bag handles over the top of the suitcase handle. I prefer 2-wheeled for their stability and the Maxlite did not disappoint, it also rolled smoothly and handled curbs without issue. Great suitcase.

Purchased for a 4 weeks tour of South America. After 12 flights and 6 different cities it’s still in one piece and looks like new. I will never buy a different brand of luggage again. We had a 50 lbs limit and were able to fit everything we needed for the 4 weeks. The inline wheels on this model is the most durable type of wheels for any luggage. I will buy the matching carry on size for shorter trips.

I spent more hours than I care to admit looking for a good, reasonably priced carry on suitcase with just two wheels (I did not feel like the four-wheeled spinner type would be durable enough for cobblestone streets, bumpy sidewalks, etc. and the wheels often take up a lot of valuable space, so I was very picky). I eventually narrowed it down between this Travelpro Lightweight Expandable Rollaboard carry on and the Travelpro expandable rollaboard International carry on. Basically the same suitcase with different dimensions. It’s tough visualizing dimension differences without seeing in person, so I ordered both to compare (photos attached – shorter international version is the one on the right). I ended up choosing the larger of the two and returning the international carry on, because the dimensions seemed close enough to the general 22x14x9 carry on standard – it mostly only goes over because of the handles, which do squish down a bit. Love the checked pattern inside and front/inside pockets. It holds a lot – planning to pack for a two week trip with this. The wheels are nicely recessed and it rolls very smoothly. It feels like it’ll be sturdy for years to come. I have not flown with it yet, but will update if issues arise.

I typically travel with carry-on only and skip the checked bag. I wanted a carry-on that was as big as I could get away with and this is it. I love my spinner bag but those extra wheels take up too much interior room so while its great rolling around the airport with, the loss of packing space made me check on my other options. This thing is amazing. I just packed 4 swimsuits, 4 cover-ups, 4 shorts, 7 tops, underwear, jammies, water shoes, sandals, a foldable soft side cooler and a slim water chair, 20 oz insulated mug, curling iron and a few other misc items. It zipped smoothly and there’s no strain on the zippers. As for durability and rollability at the airport, if I have issues, I’ll report back. FYI – I paid full price for this and it’s worth every penny 🙂

Nice luggage but no hook anchor or high impact roller blade wheels that we use all the time. Flight crew member.
